The Gothic Doom Fest founded post Covid 2019 brings together the best the UK has to offer in all 3 genres supporting the underground music scene from the gothic, doom and metal. Putting on a wide diverse array of bands over the years, Theshallowsouls made their 3rd stint at the festival along side Pantheist and Elderseer. Click the image to watch the video.

Simonsmith7334.Going back to Saturday night I made the trip to Brecon in Wales for Gothic Doom Fest. The first band up were @theshallowsouls_official who brought us a nice varied set incorporating lots of different genres from rock to doom to metal and even a bit of goth, they definitely showed us how talented they were and it made for a very interesting set. The singer was also the event organiser who I had the pleasure of travelling back to Abergavenny with the next day such a nice guy! @smashyswan Videos are up on my YouTube channel link in my bio

Review: TheShallowSouls – An Age of Darkness
Review by Sandre the Giant
An Age of Darkness’ is an interesting hybrid of Candlemass, Zeppelin, Sabbath and Killing Joke. There’s plenty of classic heavy metal references, proto doom riffs and a martial, almost post punk-esque industrial stomp to some tracks as well. TheShallowSouls have made an interesting start to their recorded full length output, and I think they have a lot of potential bubbling under the surface.
After your suitably grim and epic intro track, ‘Awakening’, we’re greeted with a doomy stomp and snaking guitar melodies, bringing to mind Pentagram and maybe Trouble as well, but with a flair of eastern heavy metal leads in ‘Rapture’. ‘Para Bellum’ is a slithering heavy rocker, with juddering metal riffs pounding under the vocals of frontman Adam, who gives me a little vibe of Brocas Helm or Paradise Lost in his delivery. It impresses me mostly in the shimmering gloom of ‘Imagined Dangers’, which is never scared of taking a little prog rock detour in order to keep things fresh and moving. The bruising chug of ‘This Frail Faith’ definitely has some Killing Joke about it, mixed with rich sweeping NWOBHM leads and spacious atmospheric sections.
